Elmeridge Cables Limited have been leaders in the production and distribution of custom-made cables since 1987, supplying a wide range of low, medium and high voltage special cables and stock items to a growing worldwide market.

Elmeridge continue to supply a full range of single conductor double armoured CTD (conductive, temperature, and depth) cables. Also known as Data Logging Cables in long continuous lengths of up to 10,000mtrs.

Our range of single core cables have 2 layers of GIPS (galvanized improved plow steel) armour wires.

The cables have been produced without any grease or oil used on the armour wires, although this can be added if required, and we are able to provide single continuous lengths of up to, and including, 10 kilometres.

We use polypropylene (PP) for insulation material instead of high density polyethylene (HDPE). PP is more flexible and has a longer life expectancy than HDPE, which ages quickly, hardens and cracks over time.
PP also has the same electrical properties and resistance as HDPE.

Our current lead time for these cables is 12 to 14 weeks.

ECL believes that with their production knowledge and expertise, help your cables achieve a longer lifespan.

For more information about our single conductor double armoured cables, please email info@elmeridge.com or call +44 (0) 1273 391810.

Supply of Medium & High Voltage Cables...

Elmeridge Cables Limited (Elmeridge) have been leaders in the production and distribution of custom-made cables since 1987, supplying a wide range of low, medium and high voltage special cables and stock items to a growing worldwide market.

One of Elmeridge’s many strengths is their commitment to cable technology research and development. For more than 35 years Elmeridge has successfully strived to develop more reliable and effective ways to meet the technical and practical demands of their customers.

Earlier this year we officially added Medium Voltage (MV) and High Voltage (HV) cables to our range. However, we want to reassure our customers that we have in fact been meeting the demands of MV and HV cable production since 1994.

The first order back then was for a 12KV cable, and the team have continued to produce 33KV, 66KV, and 132KV cables throughout the decades right up to our most recent order earlier this year.

Our range includes products for the subsea cable sector, used widely for renewable energy for offshore windfarms sea to shore power supply.

For all production and distribution enquiries, our knowledgeable team are here to help and support you throughout your project.

Please email info@elmeridge.com or call +44 (0) 1273 391810.

Elmeridge Cables Limited are please to announce an exclusive agency agreement with Protect-Net UK Ltd, the UK and Ireland distributor of all Poly-Net® protective and packaging products.

Elmeridge have been leaders in the production and distribution of custom- made cables since 1987, supplying a wide range of low, medium, and high voltage special cables, and as such understand the importance of protective packaging.

This agreement means that Elmeridge, who have their UK office in the south of England, are now the official Southern UK Agent for Protect-Net UK.

Des Smith, the Managing Director of Elmeridge Cables says, “We are pleased to have been chosen as Protect-Net’s Southern UK Agent. The Poly-Net® protective products are versatile in protecting items from damage during storage and transportation, and whilst they are well suited for special cable accessories, they are also ideal for the manufacturing and engineering industries in general. We look forward to representing Protect-Net UK.”

Protect-Net UK was established in 2019 by Anne Esson, based on her own 21 years of machining manufacturer experience supporting the offshore oil and gas sector.

Anne says, “Appointing Elmeridge as our Southern UK Agent has come at the right time for the business. We have a long-standing business relationship, forged over the past 15 years whilst I was working in the oil and gas industry, and I knew that they were the right fit for the business to help expand our sales efforts across the UK. We have had several recent successes, securing contracts in the UK and Ireland, and having identified opportunities for our product range in other business sectors, including precision engineering, I realised that there was a need to have a stronger presence in England.”

Elmeridge Cables Limited have been leaders in the production and distribution of custom made cables since 1987, supplying a wide range of low, medium and high voltage special cables and stock items to a growing worldwide market.

For almost three and a half decades, Elmeridge have predominantly been designing, producing and distributing low voltage custom made cables, for the following sectors and industries, including:

Underwater Marine & Offshore
Pumps & Sensors
Oil & Gas
Pipes & Drains CCTV Pushrod and Crawler Cables
Cranes & Lifts
Diving
Fish Farming & Fisheries
Medical & Science
Railways & Trams
Instrumentation & Control
High Temperature & Thermocouple
Aerostat (TARS)

We have supplied many underwater Marine and Offshore companies with our ‘Supreme Polyurethane’ which is Hydrolysis, UV, and Abrasion resistant.

This particular compound is incredibly tough, while remaining flexible, and can be ordered in various colours.

Elmeridge have produced 3 compounds that are termite-proof; our 3 cables spent 54 days in laboratory conditions in a termite mound with no adverse effects.

Compounds tested were Hytrel, Polyurethane, and Polyethylene.

Here are a few examples of special projects which we have been able to work on over recent years:

Elmeridge were able to supply the Spanish Navy with a 40-tonne breaking strain cable with the use of Kevlar aramidic yarn and two contra-helically wound layers of Nitronic 50 steel wire armour.

We have produced Rodent-resistant cables that were used in the Hong Kong Rail and underground system prior to 1st July 1997, before Chinese Rule.

Our pushrod cables for the Pipes & Drains sector have proved to be the toughest on the market today. With the rod cables in various sizes being pushed further than any others. We have worked in the sector for almost 30 years supplying some of the top companies in the UK.

Elmeridge have been asked to supply various cables over the years to F1, using compounds such as Hytrel for single core cables in many different colours. Their existing camera cables t were breaking down, and Elmeridge were able to provide a solution to prevent vibration degradation.

Elmeridge have produced a single 5km length of buoyant fibreoptic cable with a breaking load of 750kg, to view the condition of the culverts under London.

Elmeridge were asked to produce a 36-core umbilical cable for a ship’s radar system that could be flexed when traveling under bridges, without damaging the system and signal.

Elmeridge have been asked to produce two silicone cables for a medical company, the final solution was to place both cables together and produce one cable to minimize the diameter and to be as flexible as possible.

Elmeridge are capable of supplying many different types of Sensor Cables, some of which have vent tubes inside of various sizes.

Elmeridge had a great opportunity at the end of 2019/2020 to work with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), supplying 8,000mtrs and 10,000mtrs of CTD (Conductivity Temperature and Depth) Cables for the RRS James Clark Ross and the RRS Sir David Attenborough.

RRS Sir David Attenborough

Our current lead times for production are approximately 8 to 10 weeks, depending on the specification and elements required.

A recent project for the Royal Air Force was to supply a high-grade circular copper braid with a clear PVC sheath. This braid was attached to the aircraft during refuelling to prevent a build-up of static electricity, reducing the fire hazard by grounding out the aircraft.

Elmeridge have produced more than four thousand different types of special cables since 1987.

Compound Shortages

Many manufacturing industries reliant on Copper have been affected over recent months by significant price rises, and the cable industry is no exception.

In addition to the rising cost of raw materials, unprecedented severe weather conditions that affected the US Gulf Coast earlier this year saw a complete shutdown of ECTFE (Ethylene Chlorotrifluoroethylene) facilities in the county of Orange, which forced key raw material suppliers producing ECTFE and other fluorocarbons, to declare Force Majeure, resulting in global shortages.

We have been advised that shortages could continue well into the middle of 2021 and beyond. The fluorocarbon compounds currently in short supply are:

ECTFE (Ethylene Chlorotrifluoroethylene)
ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene)
FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene)
PFA (Perfluoro Alkoxy)
PCTFE (Polychlorotrifluoroethylene)
PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride)

However, Elmeridge have recently secured supply of all the compounds listed and can obtain these in both small or large quantities.

If you are experiencing problems in your supply chain for any of these compounds, please contact us either by email info@elmeridge.com or call +44 (0) 1273 391810 for our best prices today.

Copper Markets

According to recent studies, demand for Copper is expected to double over the next 20 years due to the global transition towards cleaner greener energy.

In fact, demand is projected to exceed supply by 2040, due to population growth and the increased consumption of electronics and the proliferation of electric vehicles globally.

The red metal (Copper) is considered as the material of choice for the development and implementation of smart cities, leading to estimations that demand for Copper in construction and transportation will increase in the coming years, due to technological advancements within these sectors.

However, as wind and solar energy are expected to soon overtake traditional energy sources globally, Copper will have a crucial role in the generation, transmission, distribution, and storage of electricity, thanks to its unique conductive properties.

At the same time, two-thirds of the world’s vehicles are projected to be electric by 2040, making Copper an extremely important commodity due to the metals use in motors, batteries and charging stations.

Copper is already significant to the circular economy, as it is infinitely recyclable without losing its properties. It’s projected that Copper capacity growth needs to increase by 4-5% annually to offset expected renewables demand for Copper.

In 2020 there was a deficit in production of 390,000mt (metric ton) on top of a 2019 deficit of 330,000mt. So, consumption outpaced production by 720,000mt over the past two years.

In 2021 it is projected that there will continue to be greater Copper demand than supply, which means price probably won’t decline in the near future.

With wire and cable representing 15-20% of the global Copper business and a much higher percentage of a distributor’s business being impacted by price increases.

Therefore, to avoid disappointment due to likely price increases later in the year, we strongly advise that you place your orders with us to the earliest opportunity.

Elmeridge Cables Limited has been supplying top quality Earth Braids for over 30 years.

Our team has experience in all types of earth braids; circular, flat, concentric, tubular, and square, You can choose from bare copper, tinned copper or even aluminium.

You also have a choice of outer sheath finishes from clear PVC, black PVC, low smoke zero halogen compound or even silicone. All braids can be terminated with a full range of lugs with different size holes - the choice is yours!

A recent project for the Royal Air Force was to supply a high-grade circular copper braid with a clear PVC sheath. This braid was attached to the aircraft during refuelling to prevent a build-up of static electricity, reducing the fire hazard by grounding out the aircraft.

Elmeridge Cables Limited (Elmeridge) would like to tell you about their range of Cat5e and Cat6 cables, more commonly known as ethernet cable (illustrated above).

Before we do, for those of you that don't know Elmeridge, we have been leaders in the production and distribution of custom-made cables since 1987, supplying a wide range of low, medium and high voltage special cables and stock items to a growing worldwide market.

This type of special cable first came into our range after being approached by the Volvo Round the World Ocean race team, and now form part of a popular range of products that we still supply to this day. In fact they were so successful in the underwater cable sector that we named these our 'Marine Cat5e/Cat6' cables.

They have been utilised in other market sectors too, including super-yacht construction, ships' data and voice communications, external CCTV systems and remote sensing, as they are completely waterproof.

We routinely stock up to ten kilometres of unfinished and unjacketed Cat5e and Cat6. These four-pair cables can also be laid up as multiple bundles of four pairs if required, together with either an aluminium foil screen, or a woven braid of steel or tinned copper wires. Additional longitudinal strength can be provided for pulling and lifting purposes with the use of aramid yarn.

Our standard types are produced with an outer jacket of our Supreme polyurethane, which is both extremely tough and very flexible. This compound is also hydrolysis resistant, UV resistant, and abrasion resistant, making these cables suitable for underwater ethernet applications. If preferred, you can select a different compound jacket in any colour; this can also be low-smoke zero halogen, flame retardant or fire resistant. The choice is yours!

We have our own cutting and drumming machines, meaning we can supply these cables in the format and lengths required for your particular application.

Simply tell us how you would like the cable to be built, and with the conductors available from stock, we are able to offer very short lead times of between four to six weeks depending on the processes required.

Happy New Year - The Elmeridge Team

Elmeridge Cables Limited have been leaders in the production and distribution of custom-made cables since 1987, supplying a wide range of low, medium and high voltage special cables and stock items to a growing worldwide market.

One of Elmeridge's many strengths is their commitment to cable research and development. For over 35 years they have strived to develop more reliable and effective ways to meet the technical and practical demands within the Underwater and Marine sectors.

An example of this can be found in their solution to ensuring dependable cable quality for continuous use at greater depths. The use of hot melt encapsulation allows Elmeridge to produce cables tested to a depth of 6000 meters.

Elmeridge remains flexible to customers' needs and requirement, ensuring an ongoing and lasting relationship with many of their customers.

In addition to custom cable, Elmeridge also hold stock of their own Marine Cat 5e and Cat 6, which is fully waterproof, and Divers communication cables in Supreme Polyurethane (PUR).

Due to customer demand, Elmeridge have now expanded their product range to include medium and high voltage cables.

Working within the subsea and renewable energy market, they now produce power cables for offshore wind energy and sea to shore power links.

Their range of medium and high voltage cables cover the use of copper and aluminium conductors, in both single and three core, up to and including 600mm², and triplex configuration.

Elmeridge's umbilical cables are designed to transmit power, and communication across gas and oil fields. Elmeridge can provide signal and mechanical strength for subsea equipment, such as ROV’s and trenchers.

The Elmeridge Team has grown, and we are delighted to welcome Mark Jones to the team as Technical Sales Manager.

Mark brings a wealth of experience to Elmeridge, spanning over 35 years, and has an in-depth knowledge of the underwater cable market, having worked with Cogent, JDR and Technip.

Mark's technical background covers a wide range of cable types, including electric (medium and low voltage), signal, optical fibre, umbilicals, flexibles, rigid pipes and connectors/terminations, and ancillary hardware. Applications within these sectors have included both subsea and land-based duct, direct burial, blown fibre and in-building.

Mark has successfully worked with customers to deliver safe and reliable cable installations for hazardous areas too, such as oil platforms, floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels, airports and public transport installations across underground and overground rail.

With the addition of Mark to the technical management team at Elmeridge, we now have over 100 years of combined cable experience for you to rely on for your next cable order.

For more information about any of our cables, please visit elmeridge.com or call +44 (0) 1273 391810 and speak to one of the team.

ECL can now supply a full range of single conductor double armoured cables.

Our current lead time for these cables is 10 to 12 weeks.

ECL believes that with their production knowledge and expertise, your cables will achieve a longer lifespan.

Elmeridge Cables Limited (ECL) go to the ends of the Earth.

British Antarctic Survey (BAS) delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. Its skilled science and support staff based in Cambridge, Antarctica and the Arctic, work together to deliver research that uses the Polar Regions to advance our understanding of Earth as a sustainable planet. Through its extensive logistic capability and know how BAS facilitates access for the British and international science community to the UK polar research operation.

ECL were asked by BAS to supply two lengths of double-armoured CTD (Conductivity, Temperature and Depth) cable for two Royal Research Survey vessels.

These separate contracts were for a single 8,000 meter length for the RRS James Clark Ross, one of the world's most advanced polar research ships, and a single 10,000 meter length for the RRS Sir David Attenborough, their new polar research ship for Britain.

Both vessels work in very sensitive and often extreme weather environments, and therefore great care and attention had to be taken throughout each production stage.

BAS stipulated that to avoid slippage on the winch during deployment and recovery, no grease or oil could be applied on or to the armour wires of Galvanised Improved Plow Steel (GIPS), an assurance we were happy to give.

ECL use Polypropylene (PP) as insulation on the conductor rather than High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), which guarantees greater flexibility, longevity and also eliminates hardening and cracking.

BAS also had strict specifications regarding the diameter and width of the cables drums, even down to hole size for the spindle. This was to allow direct loading and unloading of the drums to and from the winches on board both vessels.

ECL delivered both of these prestigious contracts, as specified, within the agreed delivery times.

ECL now have semi-finished UTP (unshielded twisted pair) Cat5e and Cat6 cable in stock.

The Cat5e conductors are 24AWG bare copper, and the Cat6 are 23AWG bare copper with central cross-piece separator, each type with high density polyethylene (HDPE) insulation.

These data cables are laid up as pairs, and can be laid up in multiple pairs to have an aluminium foil or woven wire braid screen added, together with strain relief (i.e. a Kevlar/aramidic yarn braid), and have any compound applied as an outer sheath, including LSZH (Low-Smoke, Zero-Halogen) material.

We can also include these elements to your specifications, adding coaxials, fibre optics, power conductors and steel wire armour, supplied pre-cut to your required lengths.

The Elmeridge Team

Season's Greetings and a prosperous New Year from all the team at Elmeridge Cables Limited.

A brief look back at 2019...

Throughout the year Elmeridge Cables Limited (ECL) continued to deliver the highest quality products and service across our market sectors; Pumps & Sensors, Oil & Gas, Underwater Marine & Offshore, CCTV Mainline (Pipes & Drains), Railways & Trams, Medical & Science, Cranes & Lifts, High Temp & Thermocouples, Aerostat (TARS), Instrumentation & Control and Fish Farms & Fisheries.

ECL also added to its international distribution network, working with customers in France, The Netherlands, Ireland, China, Norway, Sweden, Cyprus, Israel, Spain, Italy, Finland, Bangladesh, Russia, Vietnam, USA, Indonesia, Turkey, Romania, Hungary, Germany, Denmark and India.

As part of their long-term growth plan to remain competitive, ECL relocated to larger premises in March to allow all areas of production and distribution to be managed from a single location. The new facility has over 500% more capacity for storage, ensuring ECL continue to offer impressive delivery times worldwide on special cables, and offer next day deliveries for call-off orders.

Throughout the year ECL’s R&D team designed a number of innovative products, including a high tensile strength 49 core crane cable with a toughened outer sheath, a neutrally buoyant 4x single mode fibre optic with strain relief for use within freshwater environments, and a number of vent tube cables in a variety of designs.

ECL were pleased to supply two Galvanised Improved Plow Steel (GIPS) for the RRS James Clark Ross, one of the world's most advanced polar research ships, and the RRS Sir David Attenborough, a new polar research ship for Britain.

A standout and unique product from ECL this year was a combined power and signal cable, with two 2.5mm2 power conductors and a screened twisted pair for data transmission. With an outer jacket of our own 'Supreme Polyurethane', the cable is also abrasion, UV and hydrolysis resistant and therefore perfect for long-term submersion in the underwater marine and offshore environment. Fitted with Kevlar cable stockings for strain relief, terminated with the customer's preferred SubConn connectors and spooled onto drums which allow easy access to each end of the cable to enable immediate deployment from a vessel. Our ability to deliver pre-terminated cables, to exact lengths has saved time and reduced costs for our customers worldwide.

ECL also took delivery of a brand-new cable drum, winding, reeling and cutting machine. This investment came in response to customers' requirements for smaller quantities, meaning ECL can now supply any length from a stock drum, visually inspected and check-measure to ensure quality and quantity.

Another significant investment ECL made was to purchase a 2.5-ton forklift truck for their UK facility. This new addition to the distribution side of the business means customers' orders and stock items are handled and loaded by their own trained staff, ensuring nothing is left to chance when it comes to their quality assurance on every order.

ECL also added an archive of custom-made cables to their new website, showing a small selection from an archive of over 4000 cables. A new current stock page was also added to the site.

Elmeridge Cables Limited have been leaders in the production and distribution of custom-made cables since 1987, supplying a wide range of special cables and stock items to a growing worldwide market.

We look forward to working with you to deliver your cable requirements throughout 2020.

Special Divers Cable from Elmeridge Cables Limited.

A few months ago, ECL were asked to produce a very special cable for use by divers.

The enquiry given to us specified that the cable must be a flexible red polypropylene rope, with 4 cores of 0.5mm² in brown interwoven inside the rope.

We did of course fulfil the brief and produced a cable that has now passed through each stage of testing, and has since been deployed in a working environment.

Following the success of this cable we have now produce a variety of styles and colours, including red (pictured), yellow, black, white and blue, all with different cores woven into the rope using standard single cores, and even a number of twisted pairs.

ECL has once again proven their special cable knowledge by designing a custom-made product to meet the customers' specific requirements.

The cables have been produced without any grease or oil used on the armour wires, although this can be added if required, and we are able to provide single continuous lengths of up to, and including, 12 kilometres.

We use polypropylene (PP) for insulation material instead of high density polyethylene (HDPE). PP is more flexible and has a longer life expectancy than HDPE, which ages quickly, hardens and cracks over time. PP also has the same electrical properties and resistance as HDPE.

Our current lead time for these cables is 10 to 12 weeks.

ECL believes that with their production knowledge and expertise, your cables will achieve a longer lifespan.

For more information about our single conductor double armoured cables, please email info@elmeridge.com or call +44 (0) 1273 391810.

ECL are pleased to announce another satisfied customer in the subsea market.

We recently produced a combined power and signal cable, with two 2.5mm2 power conductors and a screened twisted pair for data transmission.

With an outer jacket of our own 'Supreme Polyurethane', the cable is also abrasion, UV and hydrolysis resistant and therefore perfect for long-term submersion in the underwater marine and offshore environment.

Each length of 240 metres was fitted with Kevlar cable stockings for strain relief, terminated with the customer's preferred SubConn connectors and spooled onto drums which allow easy access to each end of the cable to enable immediate deployment from a vessel.

Our ability to deliver pre-terminated cables, to exact lengths has saved time and reduced costs for our customers worldwide.

For more information about our bespoke cables, pre-cut to the required length and equipped with your choice of connectors, please email info@elmeridge.com or call +44 (0) 1273 391810.

ECL have recently taken delivery of a brand new cable drum, winding, reeling and cutting machine.

This significant investment is in response to customer requirements for smaller quantities, meaning we can now supply any length from a stock drum.

The machine gives us the ability to visually inspect and check-measure all cable to ensure quality and quantity.

For more information about custom lengths and our re-spooling service, please contact us.
